Built at the beach.
For the beach.
SharkAlarm began with a practical request at Yamba Surf Life Saving Club: make it easier to activate the club’s shark alarm remotely.
As club members and onsite caretakers, my wife and I understood the need firsthand. Drawing on my background in communications and technical installations, I developed a system that puts shark warnings first, with additional beach safety announcements available through a simple touchscreen.
SharkAlarm connects to existing PA infrastructure and plays locally stored multilingual announcements without relying on the internet. When connected, it also supports custom text-to-speech announcements in multiple languages. The touchscreen provides primary control, with optional RF remote triggers for added flexibility.
Our aim is simple: help lifesavers communicate clearly, reduce pressure on volunteers and keep their attention where it matters most.
